Hope we see you there!

Streetcorner Five and "The Moose" June 2004

Just an update on our recent appearances and the schedule.

We were at Ozzie's Corner in mid January for their anniversary. What a ball. Brian from Ozzie's was such a great host, and we celebrated Carol Tippen's birthday as well. We had the chance to have old friend John Farrington (A Moment's Pleasure) and newer (read younger) friend Bobby Tippen (Now And Then) join us in song. It was also great to see music aficionados Steve Applebaum (with the lovely Carol, of course), Carl Tancredi, and Frank Chille there.

On February 5, we were privileged to be the opening act on Harvey Holiday's "Superbowl of Acappella" at the TLA on South Street in Philadelphia. What a show.... Dennis Gillen backed by 5-3 Woodland, Classic Harmony, and Harry Schmidt and Cornerstone. And what an audience....they seemed to have a lot of fun, and we had as much fun as they did.

And on February 12, out at Forked River, New Jersey, we had the opportunity to sing with our good friends, The Norristones. Great guys who put on a great show.

We'll be at Nativity BVM in Port Richmond Philadelphia on the fifth of March, and of course with our friend David April at the Moose Lodge in Doylestown on the twelfth. Our last show at Doylestown last June was such a ball... it was a magical evening. This time it might be a sellout... get your tickets as soon as you can. Above, we've got a picture of us and "The Moose" from the June show, and the flyer for the upcoming show. The contact numbers on the flyer will work for tickets, or you can email

Street Corner Five... Our History And Who We Are

This is the initial posting to the Street Corner Five blog... right now this is serving as our website.

Street Corner Five was formed in 1983 as an outgrowth of a reunion of former members of a young local Philadelphia (Kensington) group, The Hollanders. Original Hollanders Dee Jaskel and Bob Giordano are still with the group today.

Over the years, the group has evolved with different people.... current member Michael Diamond joined the group around 1990... "new" (lol) members Rich Giresi and Jim Bakay joined the group in 1995.

The group has appeared in countless venues in the Philadelphia area, including the Theater Of The Living Arts, the 2000 Republican National Convention, and the opening of the National Constitution Center. We've also performed at Lead East, UGHA, a number of other venues in the New York/North Jersey area, and at the Renaissance Fair in Central Pennsylvania.

Media appearances include the New Jersey Network TV fundraiser with Harvey Holiday ( a local predecessor to the PBS DooWop series out of Pittsburgh), and radio appearances on WOGL, WRDV, WNJC (King Arthur) and WVLT (Lou Costello), as well as the old Charlie Horner show when it was carried on WXPN.

Street Corner Five's first recording was a single on its own label.... "Sixty Minute Man" backed with "If You Love Me"... released in 1986.

The group has been on several compilation CD's out of the Philly area, and released its own CD, "People Are Talking", in 1999. Most recently, Street Corner Five's efforts can be found on the Clifton cd's, "The Acappella Sound Of Philadelphia" and "Acappella Showdown Vol IV".

Street Corner Five continues to "enthusiastically" perform, mostly in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. This site will inform as to the currently scheduled performances by Street Corner Five, as well as talk about the highlights of recent performances. We hope you will enjoy the site and, more important, come out and have fun with us.
